Day 1 – Monday, 08 August

Morning departure with Aer lingus from Dublin to Naples. Upon arrival we will be met by our Tour Escort and transfer to Avellino where we will have lunch. After lunch we will travel to the Shrine of St. Philomena where we will celebrate the opening Mass of our pilgrimage. We will continue on to Benevento where we will stay in the Grand Hotel Italiano for two nights on a half board basis.

Day 2 – Tuesday, 09 August

In the morning we will travel to Piana Romana. Here we will see the humble farmhouse where the Forgione family stayed whilst working the land. We will visit the small church dedicated to St. Francis of Assisi and see the tree beneath which Padre Pio received the invisible stigmata. Continue on to Pietrelcina where we will celebrate Mass in the Church of the Holy Family and afterwards visit the museum.

We will take a walking tour of the picturesque hilltop town of Pietrelcina and visit the Forgione family home, the Church of Sant’Anna where Padre Pio was baptised and the parish church where he celebrated his first Mass. After free time for lunch we will return to Benevento where we will have free time for shopping and sightseeing. We will return to our hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 3 – Wednesday, 10 August

After breakfast we will check out of our hotel and visit the cathedral in Benevento where Padre Pio was ordained on this day in 1910. We will travel on to Materdomini where we will celebrate Mass at the Shrine of St. Gerard Majella, patron saint of unborn children and expectant mothers. After free time for lunch we will continue onto San Giovanni Rotondo where we will stay in the four star Hotel Parco delle Rose for the following five nights.

Day 4 – Thursday, 11 August

We will celebrate our opening Mass in San Giovanni Rotondo at the hospital, ‘Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza’, believed to have been Padre Pio’s greatest creation. We will visit the English Office where we will have a cup of Irish tea and afterwards have the opportunity to be blessed with the glove and crucifix of St. Pio. Return to our hotel for lunch.

In the afternoon we will take a tour of the sanctuary area. We will visit the capuchin friary where Padre Pio lived and died and see the crucifix before which Padre Pio received the stigmata. We will complete our tour

with a visit to the Church of St. Pio of Pietrelcina and have time for private prayer at the crypt where the mortal remains of St. Pio lie. Return to our hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 5 – Friday, 12 August

In the morning we will have time at leisure to attend the weekly outdoor market that takes place in San Giovanni Rotondo. We will have lunch in a restaurant in the historical centre of San Giovanni Rotondo giving us the opportunity to enjoy foods typical of the region of Puglia. Afterwards we will take a stroll through the cobbled streets, experience the hospitality of the locals and learn more of the history of the town, loved so much by Padre Pio.

In the afternoon we will travel to the town of Monte Sant’ Angelo, home to the oldest shrine in Western Europe dedicated to the Archangel Michael. We will celebrate Mass in the ancient cave which has been visited by many popes and saints, including St. John Paul II, Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta and St. Pio of Pietrelcina. We will have some free time before returning to our hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 6 – Saturday, 13 August

In the morning we will celebrate Mass at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Incoronata . Tradition has it that, in April 1001, Our Lady appeared on an oak tree in the forest of Cervaro to the Count of Ariano Irpino and asked that a church be built on the site. We will have the opportunity to see the remains of the original chapel and the ‘holy wood’ and oak trunk reminiscent of the shaft on which the Virgin Mary appeared. We will return to our hotel for lunch and have the afternoon at leisure for sightseeing or to relax by the pool.

We will have dinner in a local restaurant before making our way to the sanctuary area where we will have the opportunity to take part in the Marian Torchlight procession which takes place each Saturday evening.

Day 7 – Sunday, 14 August

We will celebrate morning Mass in the ancient Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie and afterwards participate in the Way of the Cross. We will return to our hotel for lunch and have the afternoon at leisure before our farewell dinner.
